The seabed in front of the Aragonese Castle, where you can observe the phenomenon of gaseous emissions in less than a meter of depth.

Well before the Borgo di Mare on the Bay of Cartaromana there was another settlement completely unknown until a few years ago. We are talking about Aenaria, an urban aggregate of the Roman age, which today, due to the complex geological events of the island, lies under the sea level at a depth of six meters.

In 2011 an underwater archaeological research project began which, year after year, is revealing the Roman remains of Aenaria and in particular its port and the wall structures of a maritime villa.

It is possible to visit the archaeological excavations of the ancient Roman settlement of Aenaria in the bay of Cartaromana thanks to the "Borgo Di Mare", the remains of other Roman structures and the characteristic gaseous emissions of carbon dioxide near the Aragonese Castle, after a short briefing in the room of the Multimedia Educational Center "Aenaria archaeological tour".
